I kept hearing the same story and it typically started with “… that was totally my story in college.” The consistent theme was that more people took breaks than was discussed. I wanted to spotlight and normalize that. As I interviewed more and more people, I was discovering that more stories were alike, and equally as unique. Not every story related to substance misuse, or the notion of taking a gap year. So I wanted to expand the narrative. Young adulthood is wicked hard. And if you came from an environment of failure deprivation, launching into adulthood can really feel suffocating. I wanted to spotlight that no single story is the same. That if you make in through some of these challenges, it doesn’t mean that it’s all smooth sailing on the other side. There are making paths in life. There is no “wrong” or “right” path, it’s just whatever choice you make you follow it and see where it leads you.
